Community Advisory Committee

The role of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is to advise and provide guidance to our Board on matters relating to consumers and community views.  It also assists with developing and implementing key strategies.

The CAC is made up of consumers who have used, or may use, our health services and research. We encourage membership of the CAC to include a wide range of experiences. Recruitment to the CAC occurs annually via written submission.

Under the Health Services Act (1988) public health service boards must appoint at least one Community Advisory Committee to provide a forum for consumer, carer and community participation.

The role of the Committee

Grampians Health values the input and involvement of our community and consumers in our operations.

The CAC is a formal committee reporting directly to the Board in relation to:

  • representing and advocating for the community
  • engaging with the community to understand their needs
  • telling us, via the Board, about consumer, carer and community views. These views can be on health service development, planning and quality improvement

Committee members

The responsibilities of the CAC members include:

  • using their strong community networks and understanding of local issues to inform conversations
  • contributing their knowledge and skills by supplying consumer, carer and community perspectives. These perspectives may be through lived experience, personal or professional
  • reflecting on and presenting community issues
