Achievements, collaborations and future milestones in focus at Grampians Health AGM
Grampians Health’s board members and staff reflected on the achievements and collaborations of the past year and looked forward to future milestones at its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Held on 26 November at the Ballarat Base Hospital, the AGM brought together stakeholders and staff to review the health service’s progress throughout 2024-25 and share its vision for the year ahead.
Collaboration continued to be a cornerstone of Grampians Health’s approach to care throughout 2024–25, resulting in the expansion of specialist care across the region. This included delivering paediatric services across the locations, the opening of a haematology clinic in Stawell, streamlining of emergency care provision and the sharing of allied health resources across all campuses to ensure consistent, comprehensive services region-wide.
“The AGM was an important opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of our staff and the progress we have made in delivering equitable healthcare across western Victoria,” said Dale Fraser, CEO of Grampians Health.
“Collaboration across our campuses has been vital in achieving these outcomes, and we remain committed to building on this momentum.”
Over the past year, specialised services for women’s health were also launched to ensure positive health outcomes for the communities. Initiatives introduced included a heavy menstrual bleeding clinic in Ballarat (the first of its kind in the region), sexual health hubs and pelvic health physiotherapy clinics in Horsham and Stawell, and a new gynaecology clinic in Stawell. These clinical initiatives reinforced Grampians Health’s founding commitment to bring care closer to home for regional communities.
In addition to new services, Grampians Health has also expanded its infrastructure in the region through the opening of a brand new $5.15 million second operating theatre in Stawell and a purpose-built pharmacy in Horsham.
Continuing the health service’s commitment to providing accessible care, the opening of Youth Prevention and Recovery Care Centre in Ballarat is on track for completion next year. The centre will offer short-term residential support for young people facing mental health challenges.
The $655 million dollar Ballarat Base Hospital redevelopment continues, with the final building stage underway. Upon completion in 2027, the new main tower – currently under construction – will consist of a ground floor emergency department, a new theatre suite and additional inpatient and short-stay beds.
“This past year has been transformative for Grampians Health. The expansion of services, the investment in infrastructure, and the reforms we have implemented are already making a tangible difference in the lives of our patients and communities,” said Mr Fraser.
“Our focus now is on delivering our 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, which will strengthen partnerships and ensure inclusive, accessible and high-quality care for all.”
