A swipe for staff safety

Nurses and Acute ward team members at Grampians Health’s Edenhope campus now have a safe and secure space to work in after the installation of an access control-swipe system.

The $12,000 system was purchased with funding from Edenhope’s Murray to Moyne cycling team. The nurses station features a new enclosed room with shatter proof windows and swipe access doors.

Grampians Health Occupational Health and Safety Advisor Peter Hutchinson identified the need for improved security on an early visit to the Edenhope campus. He said while the hospital was secured in the evenings and at night, anyone could walk through the building and access the nurses station during the day.

Edenhope campus Engineering Department’s acting leading hand Chad Eastwood is also Murray to Moyne team captain. Mr Eastwood said the swipe security system was supplied and installed by Armour Lock & Alarm.

“The Murray to Moyne team provided the funding for the swipe system while the money for the shatter proof doors and windows which were provided and installed by Horsham Doors and Glass, came from Grampians Health,” Mr Eastwood said.

Grampians Health Director of Engagement and acting Chief People Officer Tamara Reynolds said the new secured station was a wonderful outcome.

“This project began with one of our Horsham team members wanting to support the safety, health and wellbeing of our people and grew to completion through collaborative engagement with Edenhope’s community fundraisers,” Ms Reynolds said.

“Grampians Health will continue to ensure money raised in the Edenhope community will be spent on Edenhope campus projects.”
