The $15 million Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) Major Radiotherapy Equipment Replacement Project has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone for cancer care across the Grampians region.

Delivered through a collaborative partnership between Grampians Health, Austin Health and the Ballarat Austin Radiation Oncology Centre (BAROC), the project has seen two Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators (Linacs) installed, equipped with Vision RT Surface guidance and Brainlab Stereoscopic imaging technology.

As part of the project, the radiotherapy treatment bunkers also underwent an extensive fit-out to enhance patient wellbeing.

CEO Dale Fraser said the project had transformed both the technology and treatment environment available to patients in the region, delivering care closer to home and allowing patients to be surrounded by their family, friends and support networks.

"It's incredibly rewarding to see this project completed and delivering real benefits for patients,” Mr Fraser said.

"This project ensures patients across the Grampians region have access to some of the most advanced radiotherapy technology available, without needing to travel to Melbourne for care.

"The refurbished treatment spaces provide a modern, calming environment, while the new Linacs offer advanced treatment capabilities that support world-class cancer care for patients across the Grampians region.”

Austin Health CEO Jodie Geissler was also enthusiastic about what the completion of the project means for patients in the Grampians region.

"The completion of this project is a significant achievement for our partnership with Grampians Health and reinforces BAROC's role as a leading regional cancer care centre," Ms Geissler said.

"By combining advanced radiotherapy technology with specialist clinical expertise, along with Grampians Health we're ensuring patients across the region can access contemporary, world-class cancer treatment closer to home. We are grateful to everyone involved in the delivery of this project and to the incredible BAROC team who provide outstanding care to patients."

The project strengthens BRICC's position as a leading regional cancer centre and reinforces the commitment of Grampians Health and Austin Health to delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care closer to home.

The project was delivered as a joint initiative between Grampians Health and Austin Health, funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments, with additional support from the Radiation Oncology Special Purpose Funds.
