Young imaginations on display as part of BBHR project
A vibrant new artwork installation created as part of a community engagement initiative for the Ballarat Base Hospital Redevelopment (BBHR) is now on display, offering a colourful glimpse into the future of healthcare through the eyes of local students.
Located at the rear of the hospital’s existing main reception, the installation features imaginative creations from students across the following eight local primary schools Black Hill Primary School, Delacombe Primary School, Forest Street Primary School, Macarthur Street Primary School, Pleasant Street Primary School, Sebastopol Primary School, St Alipius Parish School and St Thomas More Catholic Primary School.
Chief Redevelopment and Infrastructure Officer Veronica Furnier said each piece captured a unique vision of what hospitals could look like in the future ranging from innovative technology to welcoming, patient-centred spaces.
“It’s incredibly special to provide a platform for young people to share their perspectives and feel part of this once-in-a-generation redevelopment. One of my favourite pieces featured a dinosaur wing topped with chocolate, designed to help cheer people up and make them feel better,” Ms Furnier said.
Ms Furnier said the artwork not only brightened the existing hospital environment but also helps patients, visitors and staff connect with the future vision of the site.
“As we work towards completing construction of the hospital’s new main tower in 2027, it’s exciting to see that future reflected through the eyes of our young community members.”
