Breast imaging

Diagnostic breast imaging uses low-dose x-rays or ultrasound, sometimes both, to image the breast. 

Who we care for

We provide services for patients needing breast imaging who have: 

  • past history of breast cancer 
  • family history of breast cancer 
  • significant symptoms such as a new lump/nipple discharge or inversion 
  • dense breasts requiring 3D mammography 

Routine breastscreening for asymptomatic women over 40 years is available through Grampians Breastscreen.

What you can expect

We offer:

  • 2D and 3D(tomosynthesis) mammography (Ballarat and Horsham) 
  • Breast ultrasound (Ballarat and Horsham) 
  • Contrast Enhanced Mammography (Ballarat only) 
  • Stereotactic biopsy (Ballarat only) 
  • Breast biopsy (Ballarat only) 

Referrals and access

  • A referral is required from a medical provider. Please bring this with you to your appointment.  
  • We accept referrals and requests from all imaging providers.    
  • Appointments are essential.   
  • Non-urgent results are sent to your referring doctor within 2 working days. Results cannot be given directly to you.
