Day procedures

Day procedures allow you to undergo investigations and surgeries without overnight admission to the hospital.

Who we care for

We care for anyone referred to Grampians Health for a day procedure.

What you can expect

You will be admitted to our Day Procedure Unit a short time before your investigation or surgery.

Our registered nurses care for you throughout the day, from admission to recovery. They will provide information on what to expect as part of the surgery and what recovery will be like.

Procedures that are offered include:

  • ear, nose and throat
  • orthopaedic
  • gynaecological
  • ophthalmic
  • endoscopic
  • diagnostics
  • elective surgery
  • other general procedures.

Your length of stay depends on the type of procedure and anaesthetic but is usually no more than 3 or 4 hours after the procedure.

You will be contacted by a nurse within 24-hours of discharge to answer any questions about your recovery and ongoing care.

If you experience increased pain, your condition worsens or you have concerns about your wound or dressing, please contact your surgeon or GP, if medical attention is urgent, please present to your closest Urgent Care Centre or Emergency Department, or phone for an ambulance on 000.
