Our dental team provides emergency, general, denture and specialist dental care across the Grampians region. We also support dental education and training for students.
Who we care for
We provide dental care through the public dental system. To be eligible for treatment you must meet the eligibility criteria.
We have dental locations in Ballarat and Horsham. If you are based in Edenhope or Dimboola please contact our Horsham location. Our dental services are accessible by people across the Grampians region.
What you can expect
We aim to provide a high standard of care in a safe and relaxed environment. Through a comprehensive evaluation, we help educate and guide each patient through the steps and options available. We will work with you to create a treatment plan to suit your oral health care needs and achieve your desired outcome (within the services we can provide).
Public dental services are provided by dentists, oral health therapists, Prosthetists, educators, students and dental assistants.
Please bring to your appointment:
- your concession card / Health Care card / Pension card
- a list of current medications
- a medical history (or ability to relay a medical history)
Patient co-payments may apply. There are no fees if you see a student. Please contact the clinic for details.
Eligibility
Adults
You are eligible for public dental services if you:
- live in Victoria and
- hold a Health Care Card issued by Centrelink or
- hold a Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink or
- hold a Veteran Pensioner Concession Card issued by the Department of Veteran's Affairs (DVA) or
- are a refugee or asylum seeker or
- are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
Children and young people
You are eligible for public dental services if you:
- live in Victoria and
- are aged 0-12 years of age, irrespective of family income or
- are aged between 0–17 and are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule or
- are aged between 13-17 with a Health Care card or Pension Card or whose parents hold a Health Care card or Pension Card or
- are a youth justice client in custodial care, regardless of age, or
- are aged up to 18 years of age and are in out-of-home care, provided by the Children Youth and Families Division of the Department of Human Services
Priority care access groups
If you are eligible for public dental services, you may also have priority access.
The following groups have priority access to public dental services:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- children (0-12 years) and young people
- homeless people and people at risk of homelessness
- pregnant people
- refugees and asylum seekers
- people registered with mental health or disability services, who have a letter of recommendation from their case manager or a special developmental school
Please inform our staff if you meet any of this criteria.
Education and training
We are a teaching clinic. We support dental education and training for students who are becoming dentists, oral health therapists, oral health educators and dental assistants.
Our Dental School provides treatment by dental students as part of our teaching clinic, supervised by qualified oral health professionals. Treatment is free in the dental teaching clinic, which is currently available at our Ballarat and Horsham clinics.
As part of our community education, we provide Oral Health Programs to promote lifelong dental health through prevention and education.
Referrals and access
There is currently a waitlist for general dental care and denture services due to high demand. If you accept an offer of care, please ensure you are able to commit to the treatment at the scheduled time.
Patients who miss multiple appointments may be placed back on the waitlist.
Individuals with priority access will be offered the next available appointment, based on their last date of attendance.
If you are in pain, please let the receptionist know, you will be triaged and then given a care plan depending on the urgency.
Emergency dental care
A dental emergency could be:
- swelling of the face, especially if it is hard to breathe
- trauma to the face, especially if it is hard to breathe
- bleeding from the mouth that will not stop
- an ulcer or sore in your mouth that has not healed for 2 weeks or more
- severe mouth pain that keeps you awake
- tooth fracture, an opening the tooth’s nerve or exposure of a tooths nerve
- significant dental trauma for example your tooth has been knocked out
