Pregnancy Options
Grampians Health is a pro-choice service committed to improving access to sexual and reproductive health care throughout our region.
Who we care for
This page provides information on options and services for people who are in the early stages of pregnancy.
We recognise that finding out you're pregnant is different for everyone. For some, making decisions may be clear. For others, it might feel difficult, confusing, or overwhelming, with many factors affecting the decision. Whatever decision you make, it's important to act as early as possible.
What you can expect
We believe in your right to make your own pregnancy decisions based on your feelings, values, and beliefs. Sometimes there's no perfect option, but there's one that best fits your situation at the time.
Talk to a trained health professional in a safe and confidential space through Pregnancy Options Counselling. Counsellors can provide independent support in deciding what to do about your pregnancy, without pushing any option. They can discuss with you all your options including abortion, parenting, adoption, and kinship care. Counselling can be done by psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, GPs, and specially trained counsellors.
1800 My Options is a free and private phone and online service. It provides information on contraception, pregnancy options, and sexual health. It can also help you find a counsellor who provides non-directive pregnancy options counselling.
Many pregnancy options counsellors offer a telehealth service, so you don't need to see them face-to-face. Instead, you can speak to them on the phone or via a video call.
Abortion
Abortion is a safe and common medical procedure used to end a pregnancy. It's a time-sensitive decision, and the choices available to you depend on how far along the pregnancy is.
Grampians Health offers both medical and surgical abortion services, via face to face appointment, or via a telehealth or telephone option.
Medical and surgical abortion services are provided at Ballarat and Horsham in consultation with the Gynaecologist, and surgical abortion is available at Stawell.
