Respiratory function test
This is a breathing test using various breathing exercises to assess lung volumes, gas exchange, response to Ventolin, and airflow.
Who we care for
Testing helps diagnose lung conditions (e.g. asthma, emphysema) or serve as a routine check before operations.
What you can expect
You will receive clear instructions and coaching to perform the test.
If using puffers or inhalers, you may need to stop these for a period before your test. You will be provided with a list of these medications along with your appointment details.
Do not smoke for 1 hour before your test.
Referrals and access
- A referral from a GP or other medical provider is required
- Appointments are essential
- BALLARAT & HORSHAM APPOINTMENTS - Make a booking by calling 03 5320 4201. You can also fax your referral to 03 5320 4713 or email to diagnostic@gh.org.au. If using fax or email, you will be contacted with your appointment details.
- All PFT appointments (including Horsham) are made via the Ballarat Diagnostics department
- Patient name, date of birth, phone number, and address must be included on the referral.
This service is covered by Medicare, and is bulk billed with no additional fees charged.
