Rheumatology
Our Rheumatology team cares for people with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions that typically affect the joints and other parts of the body.
Who we care for
We provide support to adults with:
- giant cell arteritis
- vasculitis
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- inflammatory arthritis
- ankylosing spondylitis
- refractory gout
- other autoimmune connective tissue diseases (scleroderma, myositis, Sjogren’s, mixed connective tissue disease, undifferentiated connective tissue disease)
Please note we are not currently seeing patients with common rheumatology conditions, without inflammatory symptoms.
What you can expect
You will have an initial assessment and follow-up visit if needed. Some conditions may need repeat visits for monitoring and to arrange further testing and prescriptions.
If you are transitioning your care from a specialist outside of Grampians Health, you will receive a request to obtain relevant information from you or your GP.
Referrals and access
- Valid referral required from your GP or specialist, with recent investigations listed.
- Referrals are accepted from the different medical units at the Ballarat Base Hospital, however it is preferable for your GP to coordinate referrals.
- Referrals will be assessed based on the greatest need and urgency.
